Is my painful fat just normal weight gain or is it lipedema?
This is one of the most important questions to ask — because the two conditions require very different approaches. Here’s how to tell them apart:
Regular weight gain:
• Usually distributed more evenly across the body
• Reduces with calorie restriction and exercise
• Generally not painful or tender to the touch
• Not linked to specific hormonal events
Lipedema fat:
• Concentrated in legs, hips, and sometimes arms — but NOT the hands or feet
• Painful, tender, or sore when pressed
• Does not shrink with dieting or exercise (diet/exercise may help inflammation but won’t change the fat distribution)
• Often appears or worsens during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause
• Feels nodular or “rubbery” under the skin
• Comes with unexplained bruising and fatigue
If this sounds familiar, you are not lazy, you are not failing — you may be dealing with a medical condition that most conventional doctors don’t test for. At Lipedema Warrior Clinic, we run advanced labs and functional assessments to get you real answers, not just another referral to a weight loss program.
